Q.Why won’t Campus Connect let me register for a marketing class?
There are a number of possibilities:
1. You must be a College of Commerce student to register for most Commerce (marketing) classes. If you are not a major or minor in the College of Commerce, you cannot register for these classes.
2. You may have a financial block on your account. Check with the Registrar’s Office or with Financial Accounts to see if you are blocked.
3. Your registration window may not be open. Registration starts on different days for different students depending on how many credits you have accumulated thus far. You may be eligible to register after a few days.
Q.The class I want is closed, can you over-enroll me, anyway?
No because caps are set on classes for a number of reasons. Sometimes it is room capacity, other times it is because a professor can only reasonably teach a certain number of students in one session. We set our class capacities as high as we reasonably can from the beginning so that as many students can get the courses they need.
Plan ahead. Course bulletins and Campus Connect list what courses are offered each term. If a course is offered infrequently, or only one section is offered each term, try not to wait until you are in your final term to enroll.
Q.Can I take a course if I do not have a prerequisite?
Under certain circumstances you can. We do allow exceptions for some classes “if you are concurrently taking the prerequisite.” This is usually the case for graduating seniors and for courses that “aren’t” near capacity. The more prerequisites you are missing, the less likely your request is to be approved. We would rather register students who have already met the requirements then give seats to students who have not.
Stop by the Department (DePaul Center 7500) and pick up the waiver form. Fill out the short form and turn it in to the receptionist. The Chair will review your request, and you should receive a resopnse within a week. However, do not wait until the middle of registration to submit the form; submit it as soon as possible.
