Navigating  the Interactive Marketplace: Challenges, Trends and Opportunities

Notable Chicago area professionals will engage in a lively round table discussion about the near-term outlook for changing marketing strategies in a  rapidly developing mobile, social media world.  The panel will explore trends that that can be leveraged to pursue opportunities and meet challenges in these transforming times. This includes how marketplace interactivity is redefining relationships and collaboration between marketers and consumers, content producers/distributors, and other marketers. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage in the dialogue.

   Diane Mermigas

Diane Mermigas is an award-winning business writer and analyst specializing in digital media content, marketing, commerce and consumer behavior-related trends. She advises companies on developing digital media and marketing strategies and business models. She also is an adjunct professor of new media studies at DePaul University, where she graduated with an MA in English in 1988.

Ms. Mermigas is collaborating on a book with former NBC Universal CEO Bob Wright. She has been an advisor on digital convergence, interactive business plans and thought leadership to companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Fuse Capital, Public Broadcasting, GE Capital and Akoo International. She has been a moderator and presenter at industry conferences hosted by the  World Economic Forum and the Monaco Media Forum, American University's Center for Social Media and Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet & Society. Her writings have appeared in  The Hollywood Reporter, Advertising Age and other Crain Communications publications as well as Seeking Alpha, Business Insider, BNET and Mediapost.    David Klein, Crain Communications/Advertising Age

David Klein is the publishing and editorial director of Crain Communications’ Ad Age Group, as well as Group Publisher/Strategic Initiatives for the whole company. The group's weekly Advertising Age newspaper is the industry leader in covering advertising, marketing and media news. In 1996, Klein joined Ad Age as editor and became associate publisher and group editor in 1997. As publishing and editorial director, he has overall responsibility for the print, Internet and database publishing enterprises of Crain’s marketing and media publications. These include TelevisionWeek, BtoB, and Creativity magazines.
 
Before joining The Ad Age Group, Klein was editor of CMP Media's Information Week, and before that founding editor-in-chief of Interactive Age, the first trade magazine dedicated to covering Web commerce and media. He began his career in business publishing at Crain’s’ Electronic Media (now TelevisionWeek), moving from news editor in 1984 to editor in 1992. Prior to that, Klein spent eight years working as a reporter, editor and TV columnist for daily newspapers before moving into high-tech and business publishing.

 

 

   Clive Maclean, Eurorscg

Clive Maclean joined Euro RSCG Discovery in 2010 on the heels of a period of impressive growth. He has accelerated that growth by delivering a unified offering to clients that leverages Euro RSCG’s digital-based marketing model.
Most recently, Maclean worked with Naked, Engauge and Whittmanhart via his consultancy Clive Maclean Consulting. Prior to that, Maclean served as North American president of The Marketing Store where he worked with the likes of McDonald’s, Coca Cola and Allstate. Before joining The Marketing Store, Maclean ran Kestenbaum Consulting, part of WPP’s Wunderman. He’s also served as president of FCB Direct in Chicago as well as Leo Burnett Interactive in South Africa, where he’s originally from.

 

 

 

 

   Richard Hren, Razorfish

Richard Hren is currently the VP of Customer Insight Group at Razorfish. He leads the analytics practice for the Central Region.

He has been working in the field of direct and database marketing for well over 25 years, creating analytically driven solutions for mission critical sales and marketing problems. During that span, he has held positions with large corporations (e.g., Montgomery Ward Insurance, Sears Catalog, Ameritech/SBC, RR Donnelley), as well as smaller consultative and data services companies (e.g., Claritas, MDS, Nykamp Consulting), and stints at large ad agencies (OgilvyOne and Euro RSCG). He has been deeply involved in the development of several recognized commercial segmentation systems: PRIZM, P$YCLE, Silhouette, and FinSegments.

Richard is an active member of the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing (CADM) and has been a frequent lecturer and conference speaker. He has also served on the faculty of the Pennebaker Direct & Interactive Marketing Certificate Program at De Paul.

Richard holds a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University in Chicago, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
